How to Make You Own Lava Lamp
Kids: Always be sure to get help from a grown up when you do any science experiment for safety.
This is a really fun experiment you can easily do over an over with minimal supplies. A great lesson on chemistry.
What you need:
An Empty Plastic Bottle or Jar
Water
Food Coloring
Cooking Oil
Alka-Seltzer (or similar) Tablets
How to do it:
1. Fill up your container about 1/3 full with water.
2. Add some food coloring to the water.
3. Add about 1/4 height container of oil on top of water.
4. Drop in half a tablet.
5. Watch the fun go!
6. When the tablet stops reacting, add more as you wish!
Science Fair Project Ideas:
Try different types of oil, different amounts of oil or water, different types of tablets and see what works best!
Enjoy the color fun! For even more fun, dim the lights and shine a flashlight under your container.
