How to Make Your Own Simple Bouncy Balls
Kids: Always be sure to get an adults help with any science experiment for safety.
What you need:
4 TBS Glue
2 tsp Cornstarch
Food Coloring
Small Mixing Containers
Stirring Sticks or Spoons
1 tsp Borax
1 cup Warm Water
Medium Container
Optional: Glitter
How to do it:
1. In a small mixing container, put 1 tablespoon of glue and 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch.
2. Add food coloring and mix very well until smooth.
3. Repeat this process in another 1-3 small containers depending on the total size and colors you want your bouncy ball to be.
3. In another medium sized container mix 1 teaspoon of borax into 1 cup of warm water.
4. Carefully drop one of the glue cornstarch mixtures into the borax and let it rest for about 10-15 seconds, gently moving it around.
5. Remove the blob and gently work it in your hand, place it to the side for a minute.
6. Repeat this with the other glue-cornstarch mixtures.
7. Combine all of the small blobs together and gently mix them together. Add glitter if you wish.
8. Return the larger blob to the borax solution, and gently move it around in there for another 10-15 seconds.
9. Remove it and work it with your hands again. Repeat until it feels pretty solid.
10. Let it dry for a bit. Since it is still a polymer, it can lose shape as it rests. Just simply reshape it with your hands as needed.
11. Enjoy!
Science Fair Project Ideas:
Change the amounts of ingredients to see what exact amount gives you the most bounce.
Have a bouncing good time!
